Ru kiln porcelain is widely regarded as the pinnacle of monochrome glaze ceramics. Historically, it was produced only during a brief 20-year period around the year 1100, exclusively for the imperial court of the Song Dynasty. For over 800 years afterward, the technique was lost. Even Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty attempted to replicate Ru kiln ware but failed due to limitations in materials and craftsmanship. Today, fewer than 100 intact antique Ru kiln pieces survive. Most are treasured centerpieces in major museums, while the few that appear at auctions repeatedly set records for ceramic collections—even fragments are valued at tens of thousands of dollars.
Modern production of Ru kiln ceramics began in the 1980s. After decades of refinement, both the craftsmanship and market have matured. Now, for just the cost of a casual meal, one can own a piece of Ru kiln ware—something once dreamed of only by ancients.
Among the many modern and accessible Ru kiln products available today, this collection stands out by emphasizing three essential qualities:
*Color: Faithfully recreates the subtle, classic tones of historical Ru ware. While many contemporary versions prioritize visual impact, we preserve its original elegance.
*Form: Maintains the minimal and graceful style characteristic of traditional Ru kiln design.
*Texture: Balanced body and glaze thickness restore the jade-like warmth and beautiful crackle effect typical of classical Ru kiln porcelain.
