"Heng" and "Qi" refer to two famous emperors of the Han Dynasty, Emperor Wen and Emperor Jing, renowned for their benevolence and policies of nurturing the people. Their reign, known as the "Reign of Wen and Jing," is considered one of the golden ages in Chinese history.
The design of this teapot draws inspiration from the shape of the Han Dynasty ding. Many high-end Yixing teapots incorporate the dignified and majestic form of the ding, which, as a core vessel in royal rituals, symbolized imperial power and the state. However, the artisan chose a different path, adopting only its form while shedding its grandeur. This teapot is humble, simple, and approachable, reflecting the belief that a "golden age" is not just a grand narrative of great rulers but the result of the collective efforts of all people.
